Discovering Life's Purpose : A Personal Journey

Hi Belles,

Can you believe it's almost the end of January already? As my first New Year post, I wish you a happy and blessed 2025.

Have you ever wondered, “Why am I here?” or “What is my purpose in life?”

I want to share my journey to discover life's purpose in this post.

Mark Twain once said, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” This quote stuck with me because it carries a profound truth. The first of these days is a gift; the blessing of life itself. The second is a discovery; an awakening to our unique purpose and reason for being.

Discovering my life’s purpose was not an overnight revelation for me. It was a messy, soul-searching journey filled with tears, moments of exhilaration, and sometimes even laughter at how lost I felt. But looking back now, I see that every confusing, beautiful twist and turn guided me toward something meaningful.

Acknowledging the Restlessness

The first step in my journey was admitting that I wasn’t happy. I’ll never forget the sinking feeling I had one evening after work. I was sitting on my bed, scrolling through my phone, when it hit me; I was living on autopilot. I had a steady job, a predictable routine, and a life that looked good on paper. But inside, I felt like a shell of myself. There was this quiet, persistent restlessness; a voice inside me saying, “There’s more to life than this.”

Letting Go of Fear

Fear and I became well-acquainted during this process. It whispered, “You will fail,” “People will judge you,” and “You are not strong enough to do this.” At times, I believed those voices. But then one day, something shifted. I realized that staying in my comfort zone; where I felt safe but stifled was more terrifying than taking a leap of faith.

I left my job. I packed up my life. I moved to a new country where I barely knew anyone. It was not glamorous. There were days I cried from sheer overwhelm, questioning if I’d made a mistake. But there were also moments of indescribable freedom, like standing on a mountaintop and feeling the wind remind me that I was alive.

Embracing the Unknown

Starting over felt like standing at the edge of a vast, empty canvas. At first, I didn’t know what to paint. I filled my days with long walks, and journaling, Slowly but surely, pieces of myself began to emerge; pieces I hadn’t paid attention to in years.

I rediscovered my love for connecting with people, hearing their stories, and helping them see the potential within themselves. I realized that my purpose wasn’t some grand, singular mission waiting to be unveiled. It was a series of small, meaningful actions that aligned with my values and brought me joy. For me, that meant helping others navigate their journeys, inspiring them to embrace their potential, and creating a life centred on freedom and authenticity.

Living with Intention

Finding your purpose is not the end of the journey; it is the beginning of a new chapter. I’ve learned that purpose is not a fixed destination. It evolves as we grow, and learn more about ourselves. Today, I strive to live with intention, making choices that reflect the life I truly want, not the one I think I am supposed to want.

Your Journey Awaits

If you are searching for your purpose, I want you to know that you are not alone. It is okay to feel lost. Sometimes, feeling lost is the first sign that you are on the verge of something beautiful. Start by listening to that quiet voice inside you; the one that nudges you when something doesn’t feel right. Be brave enough to let go of what no longer serves you, even if it feels scary or uncertain. Trust that the journey, as messy and unpredictable as it may be, is worth it.

Here are some actionable steps that can help you discover your purpose:

1. Reflect on What Brings You Joy: Take time to think about the activities or moments when you feel most alive. What lights you up? What makes you lose track of time?

2. Explore Your Strengths: Identify your natural talents and abilities. What do people often come to you for help with? Sometimes, our strengths point us toward our purpose.

3. Pay Attention to Your Values: Reflect on what matters most to you. Is it freedom, connection, creativity, or something else? Aligning your life with your values can reveal your purpose.

4. Journal Regularly: Writing down your thoughts can help you uncover patterns, desires, and ideas that you might not notice otherwise. Ask yourself, “What impact do I want to leave on the world?”

5. Try New Experiences: Sometimes, you discover your purpose by stepping out of your comfort zone. Volunteer, take a class, or try something that scares you a little.

6. Listen to Your Intuition: Pay attention to those gut feelings and inner nudges. Your intuition often knows more than you give it credit for.

7. Seek Inspiration: Read books, listen to podcasts, or surround yourself with people who inspire you. Their journeys might spark insights into your own.

8. Be Patient with Yourself: Purpose doesn’t always reveal itself quickly. Trust that each step you take, no matter how small, is guiding you toward clarity.

Your purpose doesn’t have to be monumental. It just has to be yours. And when you begin to live in alignment with it, you’ll find a sense of peace and fulfilment that no external achievement can match.

So take that first step, however small it may seem. Your journey to discovering your life’s purpose is waiting for you.

xoxo,

Jodi
